babbit.

This hat is a little too big now, but I want her to wear it for as long as possible. She grows so fast, it isn't fair.

I know I haven't been writing much lately, but it seems like every day is the same. Let's see... She wore shoes for the first time today. And when I answered the front door while holding her, the survey lady said, "Oh, how adorable!" and then the Bumble pulled down my shirt. Bumble likes to have conversations and is very smiley.

Yup, that's all I got.

thanks anyway

First of all- yes, she is "old enough" to be taken out of the house. She is two months old. Should we become recluses?

No, I'm not going to pierce her ears so that you can tell she's a girl. When it matters what her gender is, I'm sure it will already be quite apparent.

No, she doesn't need to be wearing a hat. We are inside an un-airconditioned building and it is 80 degrees in here.

Ditto on the jacket. She is in a sling guys. She's stealing my body heat. Isn't it enough for you that I put her in socks?

Speaking of socks, she is a tiny girl and even the smallest socks are too big. She kicks them off easily. Give me a break.

Yeah, her digestive system reeeeeally isn't ready for cereal and she sleeps just fine through the night anyway. I'm pretty sure giving her cereal would make it worse.

STRANGER I WILL SLAP YOUR HAND IF YOU TOUCH MY BABY. I SAW YOU JUST WIPE YOUR SNOTTY NOSE WITH YOUR HAND, YOU SICKO.

No more trips to the mall.

mastering the elements

I haven't had much time to write lately. The Littlest Bee and I have been busy vanquishing her never-ending supply of intestinal wind. This kid is so gassy, you'd think I keep her on a steady diet of Coke and broccoli. We spend countless hours bouncing, bicycling her legs, massaging her belly and going for bumpy walks with the stroller (that's her favorite.) She gets mylicon drops (which she thinks are tasty, luckily) with every meal, but it doesn't seem to be enough. I feel so bad for her. I hope she can master the gas. Mike keeps telling her she has to be like Aang, the Last Airbender.

Other than the gas, she is doing well. She's big on eye contact, smiles, and trying to communicate. Very chatty, this one.

also

I seem to have my tense of taste for spicy hotness postpartum... is this normal? Will it ever come back? I miss spicy food.

at least my arms are buff now

whatever

These child development books are near useless. Yes, it's nice to know roughly when she will start reaching each milestone, but can't you tell me something actually useful, like... when can I go to the grocery store alone with her without there being a total meltdown? When will she be cool with staying in her baby carrier for more than 15 minutes at a time? When will she start enjoying her swing instead of looking upon it as a mean mommy-separating device? WHEN WILL SHE LET ME EAT?

I know, the newborn days are precious and fleeting, and I am appreciating them, I am. I didn't even really mind yesterday's 20-hour-carry-a-thon when she refused to let me put her down without screaming and even the baby-carriers were met with the stink-eye and a pathetic whimper. I'm not complaining. I just want to know what kind of timeline we are looking at here, because I am running out of clothes that haven't been soaked with pee and/or spitup and it would be really great if I could do some laundry.

Baby weight

FEEEEED MEEEEEEE

At just two weeks postpartum, I was already down to my pre-pregnancy weight despite the startling new fat reserves that gave me all the curves of Betty Boop. I've got the Bumble to thank for that. It's not just that nursing burns between 300-500 calories a day (or 1000 if you listen to the nurse in my L&D ward!). Honestly, I'm probably lucky if I'm even getting that many calories a day.

I'm kidding, but seriously-- the Bumble seems to be able to sense when I am about to eat. No matter when I fed her last-- even if was just half an hour ago!-- as soon as she smells that dinner is ready, she needs to eat again. Mike says she just wants to eat with the family, like a dog... (or a human). I have to eat secretly and quickly just not to feel faint.

Of course I could just eat over her. The thing is, I'm simply not comfortable eating hot food over her, and I feel both guilty and a little bit trashy when I notice I've gotten Cheeto crumbs all over her precious little head yet again. Hopefully we'll figure something out before I waste completely away. And I thought the parasite days were over.
